Welcome to the Welton FC Under 7 Match Reports for 2007/08

Tuesday 1st April: Welton 3 – 1 Saxilby
Both teams did remarkably well playing in winds which were difficult enough to be a spectator in let alone run around a pitch in.

Welton had a great start considering they were running into the wind.  Robert Clarke put in several good runs and his shear determination paid off when he placed a lovely ball in the back of the net, well done Robert.

The match remained 1 – 0 until early on in the second half when Saxilby really started to apply the pressure and eventually managed to put a ball past William to make the score even.

A few minutes later it was Charlie Cairns turn to score a goal and what a goal it was; from several yards out he tapped the ball and managed to get it past Saxilby’s goalkeeper to put us back in front.  He had had several attempts denied so this goal was well deserved.  Then a few minutes from the end Max Bowring fired a lovely little ball into the back of the net to put the score at 3 -1.

Both teams deserve praise for showing great resilience in such weather conditions and yet again I must comment on how wonderful it was to see all the players leaving the pitch with smiles on their faces, well done to you all.

TEAM:  Ryan Wood, Charlie Cairns, Chloe Brocklesby, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Max Bowring, Jake Holt, William Bailey and Robert Clarke

GOALSCORERS:   Robert Clarke (1), Charlie Cairns (1) and Max Bowring (1)

Sunday 30th March: Welton 0 – 6 Lowlands
This match was always going to be a tough call as we haven’t played for five weeks due to cancellations.  However, the boys started the match with enthusiasm and competed well all over the pitch making it difficult for the visitors, and creating several chances for ourselves.

The second half saw us looking a little more tired and unfortunately that is when Lowlands had the chance to score their goals.

William Bailey did very well again for us in goal pulling off a few good saves and Matthew Smith needs a mention for a great match playing in a defensive role, well done Matthew.  The rest of the team need a pat on the back as they all tried their best what more could you ask for!

TEAM:  Charlie Cairns, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith, Max Bowring, William Bailey and Robert Clarke

Sunday 24th February: Greenbank ‘A’ 3 – 1 Welton
What a fantastic match, we may have lost but I have to admit it was one of the best I have seen us take part in.  We played brilliantly, it was fantastic to see how well all of the players have developed over the season and how they are now starting to work together as a team.

Our goal came during the first half.  Jake Holt put a good ball in which Greenbank’s goalkeeper managed to push out towards the waiting Charlie Cairns, who put it in the back of the net; well done Charlie.

We managed to hold Greenbank off for the rest of the first half, but unfortunately they hit back in the second scoring their three.

I am not going to single out any one person this week for praise, I would like to say how proud I was of all the team they worked so very hard and I think it was only perhaps tiredness that got the better of them towards the back end of the second half.  It is great to see the team leave the pitch with smiles on their faces and knowing they have enjoyed themselves.

Well done all of you.

TEAM:  Chloe Brocklesby, Charlie Cairns, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith, Ryan Wood, Max Bowring, William Bailey and Jake Holt.

GOALSCORERS:   Charlie Cairns (1)

Sunday 3rd February: Scampton Hawks 6 – 1 Welton
Another week where we got off to a great start both in attack and defence and this continued throughout the first half.

At about the fifteen minute mark one of our players was brought down in the box and it was Matthew Harrison’s job to take a penalty kick; this he did with a cracking goal to give us a 0 – 1 lead.  We managed to hold on to this lead right up until just before half time when Scampton Hawks scored a great goal which neither defenders nor goalkeeper could get to.

Unfortunately early on in the second half Scampton Hawks managed to get two close goals and then it was an uphill struggle for us, goals four, five and six following.  At times our heads were down, but in all fairness all the players battled on and never gave up.

I am not going to give any credit to individuals this week as I believe as a team they played really well and pulled together.  Considering how cold it was they all had smiles on their faces at the end and once again said how much they had enjoyed themselves; what more could you ask for.

TEAM:  William Bailey, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Charlie Cairns, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Jake Holt, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith and Ryan Wood.

GOALSCORER:  Matthew Harrison (pen).

Sunday 27th January: Welton 2 – 6 Birchwood Colts
We started the match well with a great goal by Max Bowring his third in two weeks, well done Max.

Unfortunately we then let things slip slightly and Birchwood were allowed to get back in the game, two goals coming before half time.

The second half we started well with a few attempts on goal going wide, but it wasn’t long before Birchwood found the net again and they followed this with goals four, five and six.

The team let their heads drop slightly during the second half, but they deserve a great deal of praise for rallying and putting in that extra bit of effort which saw an attempt on goal put away by Birchwood’s number 4 to give us our second.

Well done to all the team for the happy faces we saw leaving the pitch.

TEAM:  William Bailey, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Charlie Cairns, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Jake Holt, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith and Ryan Wood.

GOALSCORERS:  Max Bowring (1), Own Goal by Birchwood’s No 4.

Sunday 20th January: Greenbank ‘B’ 1 – 6 Welton
A Happy New Year to you all, rather belated I know but this was our first match of 2008 and what a great one to start off with.

We began rather slowly; I think the kids were burning off the selection box sweets they received from Santa!  After about 15 minutes though, we seemed to get into our stride and it wasn’t long before Max put in a great run and placed the ball in the back of the net.  Charlie was next to score, after having several great attempts denied, and what a brilliant first goal for the club, well done Charlie.

It was then Greenbank’s turn to apply a bit of pressure and that paid off for them, with a lovely goal to make the scoreline 1-2 at half time.

The second half we picked up the pace slightly and it wasn’t long before a great attempt on goal by Charlie Cairns was placed in the net by Greenbank’s number 2 to extend our lead by two goals.

After having a couple of attempts on goal saved, Max Bowring once again found the back of the net to score his second of the match and in a repeat of the first half this was followed shortly, with another great goal from Charlie Cairns to put the scoreline at 1 – 5.

It was then Greenbank’s turn to apply a bit of pressure, but we stood our ground and defended well.

Chloe Brocklesby then put in a great run to score her second goal of the season, great stuff Chloe.

It must be said that Jake Holt put in some brilliant runs during the match and defended really well.  Matthew Smith and Luke Jenkin also deserve mentions for the parts they played in the match, they both had really good games.  We must comment on Ryan’s throw-ins and corners, most of which found a Welton player, well done Ryan.

The scoreline however, could have been higher if it wasn’t for Greenbank’s Goalkeeper; he had to make several great saves for his team.

Whilst on the subject of goalkeepers Matthew Harrison played for us today in the absence of William.  Although he wasn’t troubled too much, when we needed him he was there for us making some great saves; I do believe his best match in goal yet, well done Matthew.

I have given all the kids a mention this week, because I felt they all made a great contribution to the match; well done to all of you.

TEAM:  Chloe Brocklesby, Charlie Cairns, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith, Ryan Wood, Max Bowring and Jake Holt.

GOALSCORERS: Max Bowring (2), Charlie Cairns (2), Chloe Brocklesby (1), Greenbank’s Number 2 (1)

Sunday 16th December: Welton 0 – 5 Greenbank ‘A’
Yet again another tough match, I think our players are ready for a well deserved break, a couple of brave souls have been poorly; but they still turned out for the team, thank you.

We put up a really good fight, defending well and we did have a few attempts on goal, but unfortunately didn’t manage to find the back of the net.

I think we are all looking forward to the Christmas break and hopefully we will be back on form mid January when we have our next match.

May I take this opportunity to wish all the team and our supporters a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

TEAM:  William Bailey, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Charlie Cairns, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith, Ryan Wood, Max Bowring and Jake Holt.

Sunday 9th December:  Lowlands 9 – 1 Welton
Well unfortunately our winning streak had to come to an end this weekend, but we didn’t look too down hearted leaving the pitch.

We started well in the first half managing to attack and defend well in the first 15 – 20 minutes.  Unfortunately Lowlands had a good striker up front and he was our downfall.  Once the first goal went in a steady stream seemed to follow.

In saying that our team never gave up, they gave the match their all and Max Bowring was rewarded with a great ball in the back of the net.  Well done to Max who has now scored in the last three matches.

Mention should be made of Ryan Wood who really tried hard this week he made some great throw-ins finding his team mates on several occasions.  Matthew Harrison did a great job for us in goal he replaced William who was unavailable for the match, well done Matt.  Comment should also be made of Chloe Brockelsby, Matthew Smith, Jake Holt, Robert Clarke and Luke Jenkins for their determined effort.  I’ve mentioned all our players this week as I feel they deserve a big pat on the back for the way they kept going; even when we were losing by such a large score.  Well done kids.

GOAL SCORERS:    Max Bowring (1)

TEAM:  Jake Holt, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Ryan Wood, Matthew Smith and Luke Jenkins.

Sunday 2nd December: Welton 2 – 0 Ruston Sports FC  ‘A’
Nobody is more shocked than I am with this result we have managed to win two weeks on the trot and beaten the team at the top of the table.

The weather was absolutely dreadful, we had wind and rain and it was really cold, but both teams put on brave faces and got on with playing the match.

The first half we were lucky because we had the wind behind us and it wasn’t long before we steadied our nerves with a great ball in the back of the net from Matthew Smith, his first for the club.  Well done Matthew.

This was followed shortly by another good goal by Max Bowring, his third goal in two weeks.

In the second half we spent most of our time defending as we were now against the wind.  Rustons had a few chances on goal go wide and William Bailey had to put in some great saves.

All our team should be very proud of the way they performed today they worked very well together we saw some great defending from Chloe, Jake, Matthew H and Robert.  Comment should also be made of Charlie’s contribution to the match; considering it was only his second with the team, you would have thought he’d been playing with us since the start of the season.  Well done Charlie.

I know we all got wet and cold, but it was well worth it; not only was the win a boost to the team, but the match made some very proud parents and managers very happy.

GOAL SCORERS:    Max Bowring (1) and Matthew Smith (1)

TEAM:  Jake Holt, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Charlie Cairns, Ryan Wood, William Bailey and Matthew Smith.

Sunday 25th November: Young Dons 1 – 6 Welton
Yes we were back on winning form this week.

Firstly may I say welcome to our latest recruit Charlie Cairns who played his first match for us; he played really well and was unfortunate not to score a couple of goals.  Well done Charlie.

It took us a couple of minutes to settle down, to start with the Young Dons looked like they had the upper hand; but Rob soon put a stop to that by putting the ball in the back of the net to give us a 0 – 1 lead.

After that Max Bowring put in a couple of good runs and was unlucky not to score with a couple of shots going wide.  However this was short lived as he eventually found the back of the net with a great goal to make it 0 – 2.  Rob and Max then both scored again to give us a 4 goal lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half the Young Dons came out looking for a goal and it wasn’t long before they found the back of the net; I must add at this point that we didn’t have it all our way, William Bailey yet again had to put in some great saves.

It was then Matthew Harrison’s turn to get on the score sheet with a great goal followed by an even better celebration by his father (he was the wild one on the pitch!)

Robert Clarke then completed the match with another goal to give him a well deserved hat-trick.

Well done to all the kids who took part in this match, it was quite a cold one, but they didn’t let the weather get to them they just battled on and enjoyed themselves.

GOAL SCORERS:    Robert Clarke (3), Max Bowring (2) and Matthew Harrison (1)

TEAM:  Jake Holt, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Charlie Cairns, Ryan Wood and William Bailey.

Sunday 18th November: Welton 0 – 4 Scampton Hawks
Well winter has arrived early, what a cold one, fortunately the rain stopped around lunchtime so we managed to stay dry.

Unfortunately it was a match where we had to do a lot of defending, which most of the time we delivered well; however, Scampton were very good on the break and put some great balls in the back of the net.

It must however be said that as a team we put in a great effort; special mention should be made of William Bailey who made some magnificent saves which Petr Cech would have been proud of!  If it hadn’t been for him, Scampton would have been looking at a far larger score.

Mentions should also be made of Max Bowring’s two efforts on goal which just went wide and also the attempts Chloe Brocklesby had.  Robert Clarke played very well again not only did he attack on several occasions, but also wound up in defence as well.

Yet again the team can give themselves a well deserved pat on the back, they never let their heads drop and they gave it their all.  Well done.

GOAL SCORERS:

TEAM:  Jake Holt, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith, Ryan Wood and William Bailey.

Sunday 11th November: Welton 4 – 2 Louth Old Boys
Firstly a big thank you to both teams for behaving impeccably for the one minute’s silence, it was wonderful to see.

Now I can say yes, yes, yes we have won a match and boy didn’t our team play well.

I must say that this week we played with a lot more shape to our game, passing and defending well.

We started with good offensive play which kept our opponents busy and coped well when we had to track back, when the opposition broke.

It was not long before Robert Clarke put in a great run and placed the ball in the net.

Several good chances followed, Chloe Brocklesby having a near miss and Matthew Smith coming very close.

Robert Clarke then followed up with a further two cracking goals in quick succession to complete his hat trick.

In the second half Louth defended well and kept out several attempts on goal, but it wasn’t long before Matthew Harrison scored a cracking goal which nearly went through the roof of the net!

Towards the end of the second half we started to look slightly weary, due I feel to the tremendous effort the team had put in and Louth caught us on the break with a couple of great goals.

Today was a great match which all of the players contributed to, well done.

I must say on a slightly sad note that we have to say goodbye to Kai Arter who is moving onto pastures new.  We would like to take this opportunity to wish him well and thank him for the great contribution he has made to the team.  Good luck Kai, you will be missed.

GOAL SCORERS:  Robert Clarke (3), Matthew Harrison (1)

TEAM:  Jake Holt, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith, Ryan Wood, Kai Arter and William Bailey.

Sunday 4th November: Welton 0 – 4 Fishtoft
Yet again our players were great, they never let their heads drop, but unfortunately we just could not seem to put the ball in the oppositions net.

We started out very well putting in some good balls, but unfortunately Fishtoft had two good players in defence who denied us a goal.

The situation did improve in the second half slightly with several very good attempts on goal, but the luck just did not seem to be in our favour.

It was great to see so many smiley faces leaving the pitch at full time, it was obvious they had enjoyed playing even in defeat.

TEAM:  Jake Holt, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke,
Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith, Ryan Wood and Kai Arter.

Sunday 28th October: Sleaford 6 – 0 Welton
Don’t be put off by this result our players were great, they never let their heads drop once, they gave this match their all.

The first half of the match we were playing against the wind, which was quite strong.  Kai and Robert put in some great runs, but unfortunately we just could not seem to finish.

There were some good tackles from Chloe and Ryan and Matthew S, Luke and Jake had to make some great clearances.

Sleaford were a good team however, and we found ourselves 5-0 down at half time.

The second half we came out fighting and not once did we give in, we kept on trying.
Sleaford were awarded a penalty half way through, William dived the right way but couldn’t quite get a hand to it.  It must be said that yet again he made some superb saves, Sleaford could have scored several more goals if it hadn’t been for his great goalkeeping.

Matthew H and Max must also have a mention for their parts in the match they also contributed with some great runs throughout.

Unfortunately it was not our day, Sleaford’s good defence denied us a goal, but the Management were extremely proud of the team and as you can see from this report every single player deserved a mention.

TEAM:  Jake Holt, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith, Ryan Wood, William Bailey and Kai Arter.

Sunday 14th October: Welton 0 – 4 Ruston Sports ‘B’
Yet again another tough match, I think our players are ready for a well deserved break next week.

They put up a really good fight, having to defend well.  Several of the players were denied goals by either putting the ball wide or Ruston’s goalkeeper making some good saves.

Hopefully the break will refresh us all, ready for the next match at Sleaford.

Well done to Andrew Holt who made his refereeing debut!

TEAM:  Kai Arter, William Bailey, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith, Ryan Wood, Max Bowring and Jake Holt.

Sunday 7th October: Saxilby 1 – 1 Welton
It was a tough match this week the sun didn’t help, I think there were a lot of weary Welton players on the pitch.

We spent a lot of the match having to defend against a team who played very well.  Matthew Harrison had to pull off a few good saves to stop their score-line increasing.

The match was almost over with us facing defeat, but Chloe Brocklesby put in a determined run and placed the ball in the net five minutes from time, to make it a well deserved draw.  Well done Chloe on scoring your first goal for the team.

TEAM:  Jake Holt, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith and Ryan Wood.

GOALSCORER:   Chloe Brockelsby

Sunday 30th September: Caythorpe & Fulbeck JFC 0 – 5 Welton
Yet another great match in which our players showed how well the team have improved over the last few weeks.

Robert Clarke scored the first goal after about five minutes of play, shortly followed by a second, Matthew Harrison taking the honours.

After a spell of defending we were able to add a further goal to our tally when Robert Clarke fired home a great ball, from a superb pass by Chloe Brocklesby to make it 0 – 3 at half time.

The second half started well for Caythorpe and Fulbeck, they put our team under pressure but we defended well.

Matthew Harrison was our goalkeeper during the second half and denied Caythorpe and Fulbeck a chance of getting on the score sheet, when he saved a good penalty shot.

Robert Clarke then put the ball in the back of the net for a third time and not satisfied with a well deserved hat-trick, scored a further goal a few minutes later to finalise the score at 0 - 5.

Mentions should also be made of both Matthew Smith and Kai Arter, who both had several good attempts on goal.

TEAM:  Kai Arter, William Bailey, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith and Ryan Wood.

GOALSCORERS:   Robert Clarke (4), Matthew Harrison (1).

Sunday 23rd September: Birchwood Colts 2 – 1 Welton
What an excellent match, we may have lost, but to lose by one goal to a team who have been playing together for over a year now, I don’t think we did too bad.

Don’t get me wrong we had to defend well for most of the match, Jake Holt made several important clearances and Chloe Brocklesby made quite a few good tackles to keep the opposition at bay.

The second half gave us an important goal from Kai Arter, to lift our spirits and to reward the team for not giving in.

Mentions should also be made of Luke Jenkin, who played very well despite receiving an injury and Ryan Wood, who I think everybody agreed has improved with each match.

It was great to see so many happy, smiling faces leaving the pitch, not one player looking disheartened; what a great effort.

TEAM:  Kai Arter, William Bailey, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Jake Holt, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith and Ryan Wood.

GOALSCORER:  Kai Arter

Sunday 16th September: Welton 9 – 0 Hykeham Tigers
Our first match of the season began on a windy, but sunny afternoon with a home game against Hykeham Tigers.

There was a good turnout all players attending bringing with them plenty of support who created a lot of noise on the sideline!

This being our first competitive match, the first ten minutes was slightly nervy not only for the players, but also management and supporters.  We had a few shots go wide of goal and hit the post and were up against good defending by Hykeham Tigers.  However nerves were soon forgotten about when Robert Clarke put a great ball past Hykeham’s keeper.

Three further goals were scored in the first half by Max Bowring, Kai Arter and a second from Robert Clarke.  Although Hykeham were several goals down at this point they still didn’t give up and we had to defend well on occasions, William Bailey making some good saves.

The second half started with the wind in the player’s faces, it took them a while to find their feet but it wasn’t long before we broke down Hykeham’s defence, Kai Arter scoring a further two goals to complete a well deserved hat-trick.

Although the goals were coming thick and fast we still had to concentrate and work hard to prevent Hykeham getting on the score sheet.

After several attempts at goal Matthew Harrison scored goal number seven from close range, followed by a further goal from Kai Arter.  Jake Holt then completed the scoring with a good individual effort.

There could have been a tenth goal when Welton were awarded a penalty towards the end of the match; however an excellent save by Hykeham’s goalkeeper prevented the score line entering double figures.

The overall team effort was excellent, with all players getting involved and contributing towards what turned out to be a most enjoyable match.

TEAM:  Kai Arter, William Bailey, Max Bowring, Chloe Brocklesby, Robert Clarke, Matthew Harrison, Jake Holt, Luke Jenkin, Matthew Smith and Ryan Wood.

GOALSCORERS:  Kai Arter (4), Robert Clarke (2), Max Bowring (1), Matthew Harrison (1) and Jake Holt (1).
